Every person is entitled to a free credit score report from credit bureaus after every twelve months. The law requires the three major credit bureaus namely Equifax, TransUnion and Experian to send you a free copy of your credit report every year.
However, you must check your score regularly to ensure it is correct.

How to get free credit score

You can get free credit score report on the Annual Credit Report website. This website is run by the government and you can ask for reports from the three credit agencies. However, you will need to pay if you require the report if you ask for the report more than one time within the same year. You will be asked to give your social security number, name, address and other contact details. You must also answer a questionnaire regarding your credit history. Once the site has verified this information you will receive your free credit score on the screen and you can download and save it on your computer.

There are some sites that provide free credit score through trial membership. The trial membership usually lasts for 30 days, and you must provide your credit information. The company will start charging you a nominal fee as soon as the 30 day is over. You must therefore remember to cancel your membership before the trail period expires.

Other websites that provide free credit score information include Quizzle and Credit Karma. These websites require you to provide your personal information and in exchange you will get monthly report on your email. While the report provided by these sites may differ from the one given by FICO, the difference is trivial. Applying for a loan online is another way to get free credit score. Your lender will need to check your credit score before lending you money and this is a good opportunity to know your credit score for free.
